Hilbre Island Swimmers
Thank you for visiting our team page. We are so unbelievably excited and proud to take part in the swim this year. With last years cancellation, it is especially important that we get in the water and swim for a great cause!
This event plays an important role in helping families and individuals affected by Cancer. I (Zach) will personally be swimming to honor my good friend James Malaney, my aunt Victoria Arteta, and family friend Michael Dennehy who bravely fought cancer. Additionally, we will swim in honor of the late David Collings who was the captain of the Hilbre Island (our namesake and escort boat for this year's swim). They will be my inspiration as I work with a team that includes my brother and some amazing open water swimmers as we swim from Port Jefferson to Captain's Cove in Bridgeport (15.5 miles).
Some background on the event and the cause:
The SWIM Across the Sound has been recognized as one of America’s Top 100 Open Water Swims by the World Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA). The 2021 SWIM Marathon will be held on Saturday, August 07.
Each year swimmers, boat captains, volunteers, families and friends join the SWIM to support patients, honor survivors and remember loved ones. The funds that the swimmers raise truly make a huge difference in the lives of patients and their families. The SWIM, known for its wonderful enthusiasm and high spirit, covers 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) distance across the open seas of the Long Island Sound. The SWIM attracts new and experienced marathon swimmers as well as relay teams who aim to test their preparation and endurance during this swim. We are grateful to all the swimmers and volunteers that have supported the SWIM through the years and its mission to help patients and their families impacted financially by cancer and provide screening and support services to our communities.
Our team will work together and encourage each other during the multiple legs that each of us will swim.
If you are able and willing, our team has set a fundraising goal of $7,500 for the swim this year. Please feel free to donate whatever you are able. Every single dollar counts in this fundraising effort! I was told that the more donations we collect, the faster we swim, but I'm not sure how accurate that is.
Thank you in advance for visiting our page and helping to support this wonderful cause!
Sincerely,The Hilbre Island Swimmers (Captain, Zach Munroe)
