Blondin Swim 2019
August 3, 2019, will mark my 5th attempt at the 16 mile Swim Across The Sound! In my first three years, I was proud to captain our 6-person team, Just Keep Swimming, in support of Ana's Bananas. Last year, I chose to increase the effort with a 2-person team with my physician colleague and swimming extraordinaire, Dr. Bethamy Aronow. While thunderstorms unfortunately put a damper on the marathon in 2018, I have spent the past year training for a second attempt with Dr. Aronow. This year the marathon is set for Saturday, and we have a contingency date on Monday, so I am certain to swim my 8 miles across Long Island Sound!
The Swim Marathon is the primary annual fundraiser for the Swim Across The Sound, the foundation of St. Vincent's. The Swim provides assistance to cancer patients with services that traditional health insurance will not cover, and helps individual cancer patients and their families on a case-by-case basis with specific needs so that patients can concentrate on feeling better and family members can concentrate on caring for their loved ones. For my patients, the Swim has provided critical assistance while they focused on treatment for brain cancer. As a neuro-oncologist, my goal is to help my patients maintain the best possible quality of life through treatment and survivorship, and the Swim helps make that possible. My oncology practice navigator, Kim B, at the Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center in Trumbull, helps connect patients with the Swim to access their services and assistance.
Please support my team, W56.41XD, for our 2019 effort. It is time for brain cancer to get BITTEN BY SHARK, SUBSEQUENT ENCOUNTER!
